The 12th Annual Paul W. Smith Golf Classic took place on Monday, August 10 at the Detroit Golf Club. The sold-out event is Detroit PAL’s largest annual fundraiser and has raised nearly $5 million for Detroit PAL since 2004. The rain couldn’t stop our golfers from having a great time and raising money for a great cause!
Since the tournament’s inception, Paul W. Smith, legendary radio personality and talk show host from News/Talk 760 WJR, has championed the event, serving as a dedicated event chair and sponsor solicitor. Corporate and community support includes title sponsor, News/Talk 760 WJR, and presenting sponsors Ford Motor Company, Compuware Corporation, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, General Motors, The Chrysler Foundation and Toyota Motor Sales., U.S.A., Inc.
This year, between sponsorships and silent auction, the tournament raised $410,683 for Detroit PAL’s 12,000 kids! A check was presented to Tim Richey, Detroit PAL CEO, at the dinner and award ceremony. Detroit PAL’s new Youth of the Year, Arianna McMiller, was presented to the crowd and gave a speech thanking everyone for donating to kids just like her. The Detroit PAL dazzlers then stole the show as they cheered away the rain! Overall, the event was a huge success and we look forward to having everyone back again next year!
Thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters for making this event a success year after year!
