Ann Arbor Teen’s Bar Mitzvah Project Benefits PAL

June 3, 2015

Josh Aronow, 7th grader at Greenhills School in Ann Arbor, has worked tremendously hard doing a community service project for his upcoming Bar Mitzvah. “I always enjoyed playing sports and being part of a team and I wanted to help all kids have that opportunity,” stated Josh, “Detroit PAL is able to put the sporting goods I collected to good use.”

IMG_0559Detroit PAL is the largest provider of youth programs in the city of Detroit. We count on donations and community help to be able to successfully serve our kids. The equipment and money that this young man collected will be going directly to our youth participants and sports leagues.

Josh begun by asking his family and friends for assistance and donations. He placed collection bins and signs all around his town; at school, community gathering places, and in his parent’s office. He also wrote letters asking people to help out and make a donation or donate sporting goods for the cause.

“There was an outpouring of support and everyone thought it was a win-win situation,” said Stefanie Aronow, Josh’s mother, “Josh came up with a great idea that fits his passion for sports and his generous good-hearted spirit and I am so proud of him, his efforts, and his dedication!”

Josh’s mother was able to help decorate signs and drive Josh around to the different collection locations to keep up with the growing amount of donations. Overall, Josh was able to donate multiple bins full of cleats, tennis racquets, gold clubs, baseball IMG_0554mitts, soccer balls, and more! The donations will be used to help the 12,000 kids in Detroit PAL programs learn and grow within their sports.

Josh, who enjoys playing soccer, basketball, hockey, and baseball, wants to study engineering, architecture, or medicine some day. His show of hard work and dedication collecting donations for Detroit PAL indicates that he will be successful in whatever field he chooses!

“I feel great that so many people are joining me in this great project,” said Josh, “I feel really proud about all we’ve done for Detroit PAL kids!”

Detroit PAL thanks Josh Aronow, his family and his entire community for coming together to help us provide for the children of Detroit. Every donation goes a long way and we could not do the work we do without the support of the entire community.
