Detroit City FC is a staple of soccer in Detroit. The team, which plays in the National Premier Soccer League, has been doing great things for the kids in Detroit PAL’s many soccer programs.
In May, Detroit City FC and the Henry Ford Health System put on a Detroit PAL Kids Clinic at their field at Cass Technical High School. They invited all PAL players down for this free clinic. The kids learned more about the game of soccer, as well as new drills to help them on the field from the Detroit City FC players. The kids had the opportunity to not only learn from their soccer idols, but also to get their autographs!
The day convened with their annual coaches vs. campers game. As usual, the campers won! After the clinic, the PAL players were invited to stay and watch the Detroit City FC game against the Muskegon Risers. The kids and their families watched the Detroit City FC team win by a score of 3-1. All Detroit PAL kids in attendance were given free season passes for the 2015 Detroit City FC games.
On Saturday, June 6, Detroit City FC dedicated their match against the Madison 56ers to Detroit PAL. The players wore special commemorative jerseys during the game with the Detroit PAL logo on them. The jerseys were sold at a silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting PAL. They were able to raise more than $2,350 for Detroit PAL soccer programs! In addition to this, the Northern Guard Supporters also raised $825 for PAL.
A lot of our young athletes were invited to take part in this game. The kids had the opportunity to walk out onto the field with the Detroit City FC players before the game. They were even invited to the field again during half time to play a short game! They then returned to the crowd to watch the Detroit City FC beat the Madison 56ers 5-0.
The Detroit City FC has been a great partner for Detroit PAL! Our kids had a blast at the benefit game and the clinics Detroit City FC has put on for them. Learn more about Detroit City FC here.
