The Fall Soccer for Success Jamboree took place on Friday, December 9th at Ultimate Soccer in Pontiac. More than 700 young girls and boys showed up ready to have a fun day of soccer with their teammates, coaches and parents!
The Soccer for Success program, sponsored by the U.S. Soccer Foundation, is an after-school program that teaches kids the fundamentals of soccer. In addition to 60 minutes of physical activity at least three days a week, the program includes teaching the kids about living healthy and active lifestyles. Course material includes picking healthy snacks, how to spot healthy foods at the grocery store, how to keep active, etc.
The program has been a huge success over the years. Detroit PAL partners with schools around the city of Detroit to offer this amazing after-school program. The end of the season is marked with a jamboree. The teams have a chance to take a bus to Pontiac and play a game against another school.
Ultimate Soccer has three different rooms with multiple fields in each. No matter which field you visited on Friday, there were big smiles from PAL participants. Everyone was having a great time, trying their hardest, and showing off their new soccer moves for their coaches and parents.
Detroit PAL has served more than 6,000 kids through the Soccer for Success program since partnering with the U.S. Soccer Foundation in 2011. The program focuses on physical activity, nutrition, mentorship, family engagement, and partnering with schools in Detroit.
