Football Championships at Ford Field!

November 21, 2016

Detroit PAL’s annual Football Championship games were hosted at Ford Field on Sunday, November 6, 2016. The Youth Football League, backed by our very own Detroit Lions, not only brought their A game but also their excitement, and hundreds of family members and fans.

“It’s lovely, I like it!” said Jessica, mother of Christopher from the D-team Cowboys when asked how she felt about her son playing at Ford Field.

The level oimg_3822f energy and enthusiasm within the stadium was beyond compare! The championships commenced with the fierce F-teams. Every player displayed confidence and passion for football. Following the F-team games, the D-teams took the field and their supporters behind the stands had shown nothing but positivity and pride for the players!

“We’re feeling like winners! Coach Will had a successful season!” said Roderick Golden, father of Roderick Golden III from the Wolverines’ D-team. Following the D-team challenge, Detroit PAL Athletic Director Dewayne Jones presented trophies to the Runner-Up team, the Rams, and the Champions, the Wolverines!

Next up, there was a Team Up presentation where Detroit Police officers, alonfullsizerenderg with Police Chief James Craig and former Detroit Lions left guard Rob Sims, took the sidelines. The Team Up program allows these everyday heroes to stand in as assistant coaches and mentors for the young aspiring athletes. Throughout the event, parents and fans had their phones and devices out recording and cheering on the players and cheerleaders!

Rob Sims showed his support for the organization, and also spoke about the One Thousand Kid Challenge. This challenge is PAL’s goal for the upcoming year, to serve 1,000 more kids in 2017. After all, we have always believed in putting our kids first! Just Energy supported the One Thousand Kid Challenge as well with a check presentation of $2,500!

Detroit PAL cheerleaders of all divisions were also thrilled to have performed at Ford Field for the annual Unity Cheer! Every team did a superb job and most importantly, we all had fun!
