Football Championships at Ford Field

November 20, 2015

The Football Championships were held on November 8 at Ford Field! Hundreds of football players and thousands of supporters showed up to Ford Field ready for an exciting day of football!

FullSizeRender (1) The day started with Detroit PAL’s first-ever Flag Team Showcase! With ten different flag games going at once, every F-Team player had the opportunity to show off their new skills in front of family and friends! The new addition to the championship schedule was a huge success and something we look forward to hosting again next year! Next up, every D-Team had the chance to take the field for 20-minute games. The D-Team Championship game had been between the Wolverines and the Rams, with the West Side Rams taking home the win. We had both teams on the field for a trophy ceremony and a special surprise.

The Wolverines and Rams were surprised by two current Detroit Lions players, Joique Bell and Ezekiel Ansah! They came out to show the Lions support of the Detroit PAL football program and to give tFullSizeRender (3)he crowd and the players a pep talk. The surprise continued when Big Sean came out on the field! On behalf of the Sean Anderson Foundation, Big Sean graciously presented Detroit PAL with a check for $5,000! Big Sean will be performing at the half time show at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Game and our D-Team players from the Rams and the Wolverines are invited to join in on the fun on Thanksgiving! Former Detroit Lions player, Rob Sims, also came out to show his support and announce his $50,000 gift to Detroit PAL’s One Thousand Kid Challenge!

NextFullSizeRender (2) up was the A-Team Championship game between the West Seven Rams and Detroit Spartans. It was another exciting game that went into triple-overtime! In the end, the Spartans edged out a win over the Rams. The C-Team Championship between the East Side Raiders and the West Seven Rams followed the A-Team. This time, the Rams took home the win. The day wrapped up with an exciting B-Team game between the Detroit Spartans and West Seven Rams, with the Spartans coming out on top.

Overall, it was a great day for Detroit PAL Football! Great job to all of our football players and cheerleaders. We would like to thank DTE Energy, the Detroit Lions, Big Sean, Rob and Natalie Sims, and all of the coaches, volunteers, parents, and supporters that made this day possible! Look out for the Detroit PAL D-Team players at the Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Game!
