Girls House Basketball is back at Detroit PAL!
PAL staff was extremely proud to run the first Girls House Basketball league in nearly a decade. The league, which is sponsored by the Detroit Pistons, was run by PAL Athletic Director Stephanie Douglas.
The Championship games took place on August 31 at Boysville in front of friends, family, and fans!
The first game of the day was the 14U Division. After a hard-fought battle, the Pioneers from DEPSA Middle School sealed their victory over the Lady Hype. Both teams had great seasons and played extremely well in the championships.
The 18U Division Championship came down to the buzzer! In the end, the Lady Eagles from Chandler Park took the first place trophy and the Lady Hype came in second. What a great end to the season! As a celebration for such a great summer of basketball, food was provided to the entire league at the Championships!
Coach Jamerson Jones from the Lady Jaguars took home the award for 2017 Coach of the Year. Coach Jones has committed to putting kids first by never being late for games and by remaining focused on seeing his team improve, with less emphasis on winning games. Congratulations Coach Jones and thank you for being a great coach and mentor for these girls!
The last award of the night went to Hype Athletics as the Organization of the Year! Hype Athletics had three teams in the league, with two of them making it to the championship games. They worked hard all season and we were excited to present them with this award.
This league could not have been a success without the help of all of the amazing coaches, volunteers, parents, and supporters. Thank you all for a great season and we will see you next year!
