House Basketball All Star Game

April 4, 2016

Detroit PAL, in partnership with the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Recreation Department, held its House Basketball All-Star Games on Saturday, March 19th at the North West Activities Center. Hundreds of spectators came out to spend the day watching the young basketball players show off their skills at a mix of all star games and skills competitions. The packed out gymnasium was full of cheering all day long!

The first game of the day was the 8 and under division. These kids were in for a treat when Mason, Detroit Pistons announcer and radio personality, showed up to announce all of the players! Just like in the pros, each player was announced one by one and given the chKT3_9017ance to high-five everyone and take their place at center court. The players in all divisions were split into the East and West t eams. In the end, the 8 and under West team took home the win by a score of 11-9.

Next up was the 10 and under division. This was the closest game of the entire day! The East managed to come out on top by a score of 16-15. What a game! The 12 and under division was up next. The East side tried their hardest, but the West team just couldn’t seem to miss a shot. The West team was victorious by a score of 30-14.

Moving into the older kids, the 14 and under division between the East team and the West team was a great KT3_9404show of basketball skills by our All Stars! The West Side was able to pull ahead in the end, and won by a score of 29-23. The final game of the day was the 15 and under division, a new house division at Detroit PAL. This exciting matchup ended up going into DOUBLE OVERTIME! Both teams fought extremely hard to take home the win. The winner of the final game was the East team with a score of 41-38.

All of the kids that competed in the All Star Games and the Skills Competition did a great job! We look forward to seeing everyone at the House Basketball Championship Games on Saturday, April 16th!
