Ninety-Two Year Old Donates Painting

May 12, 2014

Bernice TobiasDetroit resident Bernice Tobias relocated to Michigan after spending nearly 35 years in her native land of Jamaica. Since, she has had the great fortune of raising numerous children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, in the city of Detroit.

Struck by local television news coverage stating that the old Tiger Stadium site could potentially be the new home of Detroit PAL, Bernice insisted that she also take part in supporting the growth and development of our city’s youth. After beginning a recreational career in painting since 1999, the 92-year-old is now using her passion for creativity as a vehicle for support and inspiration.

Her piece entitled “Jamaican Christmas” has been donated to Detroit PAL and thanks to Bernice, will be featured in an upcoming auction. The Lions Club member of more than 25 years notes that all proceeds rendered from her work will seek to serve the needs of youngsters at the Detroit PAL.
