Police vs. PAL Game at Calcara Park

May 19, 2017

Play ball! Detroit PAL was excited to host a Detroit Police Department vs. PAL Youth softball game at the newly renovated Calcara Park on Saturday, May 13. Even the Detroit Tigers’ mascot Paws stopped by for the fun event!

Comerica awarded a $25,000 Grand Slam Grant to PAL last year to rennovate the Calcara Park baseball diamond, located at Charlevoix St. and Ellery St. Comerica volunteers joined members of PAL and the Detroit Police Department to kick off the renovation in October by cleaning and painting the backstop. Comerica Bank has also committed to donating 2,400 baseballs for the 2017 Diamond Sports season! The Diamond Sports season officially gets started on Saturday, June 10th.

The game, which was open to the public, included a short program where spectators got to hear from Comerica Bank and Detroit PAL representatives about the partnership and renovations. Comerica Bank is doing great work in the community and Detroit PAL is appreciative to be a part of this work!

Deputy Police Chief Ulysha Hall threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the police officers and youth took the field for their fun game. Food and beverages were available to everyone as we watched a great game of softball!

Thank you Comerica Bank for your support! We can’t wait to get kids playing on this field this summer!
