Two of Detroit PAL’s football teams traveled to Florida from December 5-11 to take part in the United Youth Football League National Championships. The Detroit Spartans and the West 7 Rams worked hard all season for this opportunity and performed great at the competition.
“I started preparing for the games way back in the winter by working with my dad, doing running back training and running track,” said Lenard Covington Jr. Not only was Lenard a part of a National Championship winning team, but he was also named offensive MVP in the championship game.
Despite the weather, which inhibited the teams from getting much practice in before their games, both organizations took the field with a mission to work their hardest. In the end, both organizations walked away with National Championship wins. The West 7 Rams won the 10U division and were the runner up in the 12U division. The Detroit Spartans brought home the win in the 12U division and were the runner up in the 14U division.
“The experience down in Florida was great!” said Coach Joel Snyder of the West 7 Rams, “The kids played hard every game despite not practicing or playing since the Championship game at Ford Field.”
All of their hard work paid off! Congratulations to the West 7 Rams and the Detroit Spartans for representing Detroit PAL with pride at the National Championships!
