RBI Regional Tournament

July 22, 2016

Detroit PAL had the opportunity to host the MLB RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Regional Tournament from July 15-17. Players from Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Cleveland were in town to compete for a spot in the RBI World Series in August.

Detroit PAL had three teams competing in the Regional Tournament: 15U Boys Team, 18U Boys Team, and 18U Softball Team.

The games got started on Friday. The softball team got off to a great start with a 8-0 win over Indianapolis. Shortly after, the 15U Boys Team won 7-3 over Indianapolis. On Saturday, each team had one more chance to make it to the finals. The 18U Boys Team battled back after their Friday loss and worked hard to beat Pittsburgh 10-1. The 15U Boys Team took on Cincinnati and came out victorious again by a score of 11-1. The softball team wasn’t able to pull out a win on Saturday, but regardless, all three teams made it to the Championship games on Sunday! This was a major accomplishment for everyone.

In the end, the 15U Boys Team earned their spot in the RBI World Series by winning 6-2 over Indianapolis. The RBI World Series will take place in Cincinnati this year from August 3-8.

Congratulations to the 15U Boys Team on advancing and good luck in Cincinnati!
