Volleyball All Star/Championship Weekend

April 18, 2016

The 2016 Detroit PAL Volleyball season came to an end with a weekend of All Star Games and Championships!

The All Star Games took place on Saturday April 19th. These games gave the girls a chance to work with girls from other teams and show off their skills to the packed out crowd. However, Detroit PAL is about more than just sports. We like to promote character building, academics, hard work and sportsmanship. During the All Star Games, Detroit PAL was honored to present a few awards to players, coaches, and teams that are doing great things.

Sportsmanship Team of the Year – Academy of the Americas
Academic Team of the Year – Crescent Academy JV Team – Average GPA 3.7
Organization of the Year – Crescent Academy
Coach of the Year – Coach Derrick Hines/Washington Parks Cornerstone

Following the girls’ All Star Games came the highly anticipated Coaches vs. Alumni game, in which the alumni came out victorious!

The volleyball fun continued all weekend! On Sunday, the Volleyball Championships took place at the University of Michigan Dearborn Field House. It was great to see so many Detroit PAL teams out there working together and giving it their all! The volleyball program at Detroit PAL has grown significantly since 2015 – with 414 girls registered and playing. The program will continue to grow thanks to our amazing volunteer coaches and our Volleyball Commissioner, Dr. Ramona Cox!
