Rassul Abdur-Rahim

Rassul Abdur-Rahim, a senior at Harper Woods High, is a member of Detroit PAL’s Aquatic program. While at Harper Woods these past four years, Rassul has made his mark in several extra curricular activities such as band, soccer, track, DAPCEP and their tech team. He is also a dual enrollment student at Wayne County Community College District.

To prepare for his senior year, Rassul joined Detroit PAL’s Aquatic program. He decided that the program could help him brush up on his swimming technique and preseason conditioning. “Coach Bell, Griffin and Gore really work with me on getting back to the fundamentals of swimming and emphasizing  the importance of being as successful as possible in and out of the pool my senior year.” Rassul said.

Rassul enjoyed the program not just because it helped him improve his swimming but all the other aspects of the program. “I really enjoyed the variety of the program. We not only did competitive swimming and conditioning, we also played games, canoeing, lifeguarding and water safety,” Rassul said, “I also liked how I could pass on what I learned to other participants.”

Rassul Pic 2With the conditioning he obtained in Detroit PAL’s Aquatic program he was ready for the school year and the swim season. During the season he swam against teams from Dearborn and Redford, as well as competed in the Detroit Public School league. He came in first place in both the 100 yard Butterfly and 200 yard IM in the Detroit Public Schools championship.

Coach Lanita Griffin said, “He had a great season, and got faster each race. We are all very proud of what he was able to accomplish through the Aquatics program.”

Rassul currently maintains a 2.5 GPA and plans to continue his education after graduation, majoring in aeronautical engineering or something where he can use his swimming background.
