Victoria Barrett is an 8th grader at Birney Middle School in Southfield. She has been playing volleyball for Detroit PAL for two years now, and continues to improve!
Victoria likes playing volleyball because it gives her a way to stay active and she has met some new friends along the way. Although she is fairly new to the sport, she has worked hard to study the sport itself and the techniques involved. The more knowledgeable she has become on the sport, the more she has improved. When she is not on the court herself, Victoria enjoys cheering on her teammates from the sidelines!
“She has come a long way,” according to Victoria’s coach, Shawheta Pickett, “She is a very hard worker and dedicated player. She worked extremely hard last year now she is one of our starters. She has great leadership skills and the heart of a lion!”
Victoria is working hard on the volleyball court, but she also understands the importance of working hard in the classroom.
“I put school before sports,” said Victoria, “It’s important to keep up with schoolwork. You can’t play sports with the proper grades.”
The 8th grader’s favorite subject in school is Science and she hopes to one day become an interior designer.
Keep up the great work Victoria!
