Sam D. Abrams is the Manager of Player Relations, Youth, and Sports Programs with the Detroit Tigers. As part of the Public and Community Affairs department, he assists in the planning and implementation of player initiatives and fundraising and manages community outreach activities and programs focused on strengthening and expanding youth baseball and softball programs in the greater Detroit region.
Prior to joining the Tigers, Sam’s career path led him to various roles, including the Manager of Media and Community Relations for Motor City Casino, Project Manager with Vaughn Marketing Consultants, and General Manager with the American Golf Corporation. In addition, Sam has taught continuing education courses at Wayne County Community College District and an undergraduate program at Davenport University.
Sam was recognized as a Michigan Chronicle – 2013 Men of Excellence Honoree, National Youth Sports Coaches Association – National Site Coordinator of the Year, Detroit Public Schools – Operation Friendship Citizen of the Year, Dale Carnegie – Highest Achievement Award winner, and Mariners Inn – Anchor of the Year.
A native of Detroit, Sam holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Marketing and a Masters of Business Administration Degree in Strategic Management. With passion and dedication, Sam serves as Board President of Mariners Inn, Board Member of Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan, the Youth Development Commission and is a member of the Detroit Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
Sam participated in the Detroit PAL baseball program from 1976 – 1984, and the football program in 1979.
