Detroit PAL brings youth and Detroit police officers together through positive, meaningful experiences. Our Community Policing programs focus on building trust, encouraging open dialogue, and creating opportunities for youth and officers to connect beyond the uniform.
Partner Middle & High Schools in the Detroit Area
A seven week program that brings law enforcement officers into classrooms for guided conversations with youth. Discussions focus on real world topics including the role of police, current events, and the influence of social media, creating space for honest dialogue and understanding.
Spring sessions take place February through March.
Fall sessions take place October through November.
PAL Football, School Basketball, & Cheer Programs
A community policing program that creates positive, casual interactions between youth and police officers. Officers support youth at practices and games by providing hydration and resources while building relationships in a relaxed setting.
Partner Elementary Schools in the Detroit Area
A literacy focused program that pairs elementary students with Detroit police officers for shared reading time. The program helps increase reading engagement while fostering positive connections at an early age.
Open to Elementary and Middle School Youth
A four session program where youth learn how to properly maintain and care for a bicycle while spending time with Detroit police officers. Each session includes hands-on learning and concludes with a guided group bike ride.
Elementary & High School Youth in the Detroit Area
A holiday program that gives selected youth the opportunity to shop with Detroit PAL police officers ahead of the Christmas season. The experience builds relationships and creates lasting memories during a special time of year.
Boys Ages 11-17
A community-based youth engagement program that uses basketball as a platform to build trust, mentorship, and positive relationships between law enforcement and young people.
